Why Sag and Span are provided in overhead lines? When thinking about overhead lines, it is important that the conductors are at safe tension. If the conductor is stretched more between the poles then there is a chance of breaking the conductor. In order to allow safe tension, the sag is provided in the overhead lines. Well, the horizontal distance between the two poles is called the span. Span is provided to ensure they are sufficiently spaced to bear the mechanical forces and loads on the line. It also allows power lines to cross valleys, rivers, hills, and urban areas. And other reasons we will mention in the description. Well, follow us for more informative videos.
