Sign convention means signs of speed and torque when motor is under braking condition or running condition.
The power is negative in braking operation and the power is positive in motoring operation. The speed is considered to be positive for an upward movement or the motor running in an anti-clockwise direction. The speed is considered to be negative for downward movement or the motor running in clockwise direction. The torque is set to be positive if it accelerates and the torque is set to be negative if it de-accelerates.
