The introduction of the Bajaj Freedom 125 has the potential to make a notable impact on the two-wheeler market. With the incorporation of CNG technology, the bike promises to reduce fuel costs and emissions, which are critical considerations for Indian two-wheeler owners.

Although the bike features a relatively small petrol tank with a capacity of just two liters, this is likely intended to serve as a reserve fuel. According to reports, the Bajaj Freedom 125 boasts an impressive mileage of 213 kilometers per kilogram of CNG, making it an efficient choice for commuters. During its launch, the bike was showcased in a video demonstrating its passage through 11 safety tests. Remarkably, in a ‘truck rollover test,’ the CNG tank remained intact and maintained its pressure despite being crushed under truck tires.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who attended the launch event, underscored the significance of reducing India’s crude oil import bill and encouraging the use of alternative fuels. He highlighted the growth of India’s automobile industry, noting its substantial contribution to wealth and job creation. Gadkari also expressed pride in India surpassing Japan to become the third-largest automobile market and reiterated his vision of transforming India into a five trillion-dollar economy.

Five Motives To Purchase It

The Bajaj Freedom, the world’s first CNG motorcycle, aims to disrupt the 125cc commuter segment. As a bi-fuel motorcycle, Bajaj has priced it aggressively, equipped it with features, and ensured it is fuel-efficient. Here’s why the Bajaj Freedom is a boon for commuters. The Freedom 125 is available in three variants: NG04 Disc LED at Rs 1.10 lakh, NG04 Drum LED at Rs 1.05 lakh, and NG04 Drum at Rs 95,000, all ex-showroom Delhi prices.

01. Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Bi-fuel

The Bajaj Freedom is a unique and pioneering motorcycle, being the first of its kind to run on CNG. This innovative use of CNG technology makes the motorcycle significantly more economical to run compared to its petrol counterparts, offering considerable savings on fuel costs and making it an attractive option for cost-conscious consumers.

The Bajaj Freedom is thoughtfully designed with a unique 2 kg CNG tank strategically placed beneath the seat, in addition to a 2-litre petrol tank located in the traditional position. This dual-fuel setup allows riders to benefit from the cost efficiency of CNG while retaining the flexibility of petrol as a backup. The motorcycle is powered by a robust 125cc engine, ensuring a balance of power and efficiency. With its cutting-edge design and focus on affordability, the Bajaj Freedom stands out as a remarkable choice for commuters looking to minimize their running costs without compromising on performance.

02. Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Fuel economy

According to Bajaj, the Freedom CNG saves about 50 percent on petrol costs when compared to traditional 125cc petrol motorcycles. When operating in CNG mode, the Freedom offers an impressive range of over 200 kilometers on a 2 kg CNG tank. Bajaj also claims that in petrol mode, the 2-liter tank will provide a range of over 130 kilometers.

This gives Freedom a combined estimated range of over 330 kilometers and an efficiency of 102 kilometers per kilogram of CNG. Additionally, CNG combustion emits roughly 26.7 percent less CO2 than petrol, making the Freedom not only a cost-effective option but also an environmentally friendly one.

03. Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Features

The Freedom 125 is equipped with all LED lighting, including both the headlight and the tail light, while the entry-level trim features a halogen headlight. The Bajaj CNG motorcycle boasts an LCS instrument cluster that can be paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth connectivity, providing call and SMS alerts. The console displays a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, gear indicator, and real-time fuel economy average. For seamless switching between petrol and CNG fuel, there is a convenient switch located on the left handlebar.

04. Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Hardware

The Freedom 125 CNG is built on a trellis frame, a first for this segment, providing enhanced rigidity and stability. This innovative design choice offers better handling and overall riding experience, which is complemented by the front telescopic forks and mono-shock rear suspension. The bike features a 17-inch front tire equipped with a 240mm disc brake for robust stopping power, ensuring safety and control. The rear tire, measuring 16 inches, is available with either a drum brake or a 130mm disc brake, depending on the chosen variant.

The dimensions of the Freedom 125 CNG contribute to its versatility and comfort, with a wheelbase of 1,340mm providing stability, a seat height of 825mm ensuring a comfortable riding position for a variety of riders and a ground clearance of 170mm allowing the bike to navigate various road conditions with ease. These specifications make the Freedom 125 CNG not only a practical choice for daily commuting but also a well-rounded option for riders seeking both performance and reliability.

05. Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Engine Specs

The Freedom CNG is powered by a 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, delivering an output of 9.4 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 9.7 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox, providing smooth and efficient gear shifts. Although the Freedom 125’s power output is around 2 to 2.5 bhp less compared to its petrol 125cc counterparts, it compensates with the cost savings and environmental benefits of using CNG. This slight reduction in power is a trade-off for the substantial advantages in fuel economy and lower emissions, making the Freedom 125 an appealing option for eco-conscious riders and those looking to reduce their fuel expenses.

Conclusion: Stylistically, the Freedom 125 adopts a modern-retro aesthetic, featuring a round headlamp with a daytime running light (DRL). This blend of contemporary and classic design elements gives the bike a unique and appealing look. The design includes a flat seat, a wide handlebar, and center-set foot pegs, all contributing to a neutral and comfortable riding position suitable for various riding conditions. The bike also features a semi-digital instrument cluster that displays a range of indicators, including a low CNG alert and a neutral gear indicator, providing riders with essential information at a glance.
