Types Of Cell With Cell Nominal Voltage
Common Chemistries | Cell Voltage (Nominal) |
Silver Oxide | 1.55V |
Lithium (Primary) | 3.0V |
Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) | 3.6V / 3.7V |
LiFePO4 (Lithium Phosphate) | 3.2V |
Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) | 1.2V |
Ni-CD (Nickel Cadmium) | 1.2V |
Alkaline | 1.5V |
Based on your chemistry you can enter your cell nominal voltage and rated capacity per cell. In the above battery sizing online calculator:
- Load voltage may be anything like motor voltage or resistive load voltage.
- The load current is the amount of current load is consuming.
- The rated capacity of the battery pack is the current it delivers for one hour. This means that a battery with a rating of 300 Ah can deliver 300 amps of power at a constant rate for 1 hour.
- Voltage per cell means the nominal voltage of one cell in the pack.
- Rated capacity per cell means the current one cell delivers for one hour. This means that a cell with a rating of 2.6Ah can deliver 2.6 amps of power at a constant rate for 1 hour.
- A battery’s C Rating is specified by the rate of the period in which it carries to charge or discharge. You can raise or decrease the C Rate and as a result, this will impact the period it takes the battery to discharge or charge. The C Rate discharge or charge time shifts with respect to the rating. 1C is equivalent to 60 minutes, 0.5C to 120 minutes, a 2C rating is equivalent to 30 minutes, and just things you can read from the above table.
C rate for different hours
C Ratings | Time |
30 C rate | 2 minutes |
20 C rate | 3 minutes |
10 C rate | 6 minutes |
5 C rate | 12 minutes |
2 C rate | 30 minutes |
1 C rate | 1 hour |
0.5 C rate or C/2 | 2 hours |
0.2 C rate or C/5 | 5 hours |
0.1 C rate or C/10 | 10 hours |
0.05 C rate or C/20 | 20 hours |
Calculations
- Load voltage: 200 volts
- Load current: 50 amps
- Rated capacity of battery pack: 300 Ah
- Voltage per cell: 3.7 volts
- Rated capacity per cell: 2.6
01. Number Of Cells In Series: 200 / 3.7 = 54 cells in series
=> Load voltage / Voltage per cell
02. Number Of Cells In Parallel: 300 / 2.6 = 115 cells in parallel
=> Rated capacity of battery pack / Rated capacity per cell
03. Discharging Time in minutes (t): (300 * 60) / 50 = 360 minutes
(Rated capacity of battery pack * 60) / Load current
04. Discharging time in hours (t): 360 min / 60 = 6 hrs
Discharging Time in minutes / 60
05. Battery C Rate: 60 / 360 min = 0.16 C rating
60 / Discharging Time in minutes
