Edge Computing is used to calculate a large data of necessary data already before uploading that data to the cloud, this is done to reduce the size of data which results in both the time and cost of data transfer being minimized.  A very popular example to explain Edge Computing can be video recognition. Without Edge Computing, the user would have to upload the full video feed of a camera to the cloud, where it would be processed to identify things. With Edge Computing, the device with a camera would process what it sees, e.g. whether there is movement at specific parts of a video feed and then crop the feed down to the relevant part (where there was movement), and then only transfer the really interesting parts to the cloud for further analysis.
