The longest transmission lines in the world are mostly HVDC technology. The bulk power transmission is easily possible with the HVDC transmission. Below are the longest transmission lines in the world.

12. COLLASAL DC LINE- UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The Collasal DC line is the longest over head transmission line in the United States. This Transmission line runs between the Celilo near Dellas to Sylmar converter station in Los Angeles. The length of this transmission line is 1361 KM. The Voltage transmitted through this line is approximately 400KV.

11. CAHORA BASSA (SONGO-APOLLO) TRANSMISSION LINK- SOUTH AFRICA

Cahora Bassa is the HVDC transmission link which runs between the Cahora Bassa hydro electric generating station and cahora bassa dam in South Africa. The length of the HVDC transmission line is 1420 KM. The power rating of the transmission link is 1920 MW and the DC voltage it transmits is 533KV. This Cahora bassa HVDC transmission line came into operation in the year 1979.

10. TALCHER-KOLAR TRANSMISSION LINK-INDIA

Talcher-Kolar is the longest HVDC transmission line of India. It transmits the power from Talcher 2500 MW generating station to Kolar province of Orissa. The DC voltage transmitted through this line is 500KV and the length of the transmission line is 1450 KM. This transmission line came into operation in the year 2003.

09. XILUODO- WEST ZHEJIANG TRANSMISSION LINE- CHINA

The Xiluodo – West Zhejiang is the UHVDC transmission line which is used to transmit the power from the Xiluodo hydro power station to Zhejiang province which are located in China. The construction of this line is completed in the year. The length of this UHVDC transmission line is 1680 KM and it transmits the DC voltage of rating 800KV.

08. INGA-KOLWEZI TRANSMISSION LINE-CONGO

Inga-Kolwezi is the extra high voltage dc transmission line belongs to democratic Republic of Congo which is also referred as Inga-Shaba. The construction of this transmission line is completed in the year 1982. The power rating of this transmission line is 560 MW and it transmits the dc voltage of 500kV. The length of the transmission line is 1700 KM.

07. XINGJIABA-SHANGHAI TRANSMISSION LINE- CHINA

Xingjiaba – Shanghai transmission line which transmits power from the Xingjiaba hydro power plant which is located in Shanghai, China. This is the UHVDC project which is used to transmit the 800 KV voltage for the distance of 1980 km. This transmission line came into operation in 2010. The speciality of this transmission line is it consists of single overhead line and 28 ultra high voltage converters. This transmission line came into operation in the year 2017.

Xingu-Esterio is the Ultra high voltage dc transmission line which is used to transmit the power between the Xingu substation and the Esterio Substation which are located in Brazil. The length of the transmission line is 2076 Km. This over head transmission line transmits the voltage of 800 KV.

05. JINPING-SUNAN TRANSMISSION LINE-CHINA

This transmission line is located in China which is of distance 2090 km. The transmission line capacity is 7.2 GW and came into operation in the year 2012. This transmission line passes over 8 provinces of the china through the hydro electric power plants which are located on the Yalong river banks.

04. BELO MONTE-ESTERIO TRANSMISSION LINE –BRAZIL

The Belo Monte- Esterio is the first transmission line which is used to transfer the electricity from the Belo-Monte hydro electric power station which is located in Brazil. The UHVDC technology is used to transmit 800 KV transmission for the distance of 2092 km. The construction of this transmission line is completed in 2017. The capacity of the single line in Belo monte transmission line is 4GW.

03. HAMI – ZHENGZHOU TRANSMISSION LINE – CHINA

Hami-Zhengzhou is the UHVDC power transmission line which passes through the seven provinces which are located in China. The length of the transmission line is 2210 KM. The power rating of the line is 8000MW and it transmits the voltage of 800KV. The construction of this transmission line started in the year 2012 and finished in the year 2014.

02. RIO MADERIA TRANSMISSION LINK-BRAZIL

The Rio Maderia is the second longest overhead transmission line in the world which belongs to Brazil. The length of the overhead transmission line is 2385 km. It is 600 kv high voltage transmission link which is transmitted in HVDC transmission technology. The capacity of the Rio Maderia transmission line is 7.1 GW. This transmission line is used to transfer the power from Santo Antonio and Jirau hydropower plants which are located on the banks of Maderia river in Brazil. The construction is started in 2013 and completed in 2015.

01. BELO MONTE-RIO DE JENERIO TRANSMISSION LINE-BRAZIL

The Belo Monte-Rio de jenerio is the longest transmission line in the world which is located in Brazil. The length of the transmission line is 2543 km. The transmission line transmits 800 kv ultra high voltage with the help of UHVDC (Ultra High Voltage DC) transmission technology. The construction of this project started in the year 2017 and ended in 2019. The transmission link consists of overhead components such as towers which are 105 m high and passes nearly over 80 cities. This transmission line is used to transmit the electricity from the 11.2 GW Belo Monte hydro electric power plant.
