Normally, we deal with independent sources and dependent sources in network analysis, analog electronics, etc. Many people go wrong if any dependent source comes into the circuit. Many of them don’t know the difference between dependent sources and independent sources. If you are preparing for any competitive exams like GATE, AE, JE, IES, etc then you should be good at these concepts. In the GATE exam, more marks appear from network analysis. Well, let’s come to the point.
What is an Independent Voltage Source?
The source which supplies constant voltage irrespective of other parameters or elements is called an Independent voltage source. For example, the 12v battery source is an independent source because it supplies a constant voltage of 12 volts. All battery that we use in our daily life is an independent voltage sources.
What Is an Independent Current Source?
The source which supplies constant current irrespective of other parameters or elements is called an Independent current source. For example, If the current source is 2 Amps then the current supplied to the load is also 2 amps, and the current value will not change.
What Is Dependent Voltage Source?
The dependent voltage source is classified as
01. Voltage Control Voltage Source (VCVS)
02. Current Control Voltage Source (CCVS)
The dependent voltage source is one whose value depends on some other parameter such as it may be current or voltage. Assume, in the circuit, there is one voltage source of 5 Ix, see the voltage source is dependent on current Ix if the value of Ix will be zero then the supplied voltage will be zero. If the value of Ix is 2 Amps then the voltage supplied will be 10 Volts.
Thus the dependent source is one whose value depends on some other parameter such as current.
What Is Dependent Current Source?
The dependent current source is classified as
01. Voltage Control Current Source (VCCS)
02. Current Control of Current Source (CCCS)
The same thing happens here also. The dependent current source is one whose value depends on some other parameter. Assume, in the circuit, there is one current source of 10 Vx, the current source is dependent on the voltage source, if the value of Vx is zero, then the current supplied to the circuit will be zero, and if the value of Vx is 2 volts, then the current supplied to the circuit will be 20 Amps.
Thus, In the dependent current source, the value depends on some other parameters it may be current or voltage.
