Materials Required For House Wiring

1) Cables

For finding the size of the conductor actual load current is to be calculated. Then it is to be multiplied with a factor of safety which can be taken as 2 approximately to get the load current required. Then by referring to the wire table the size of the conductor can be determined.

The voltage grade of the cable is taken as 1.1 kV. Nowadays all the conductors are stranded i.e., multistranded by which both conductivity and flexibility will improve.

Usually aluminium conductor sizes are of 2.5 sq mm, 4 sq mm, 6 sq mm, 10 sq mm, 16 sq mm, 25 sq mm, 35 sq mm, 50 sq mm, 70 sq mm, 95 sq mm, 120 sq mm, 150 sq mm, 185 sq mm, 24 sq mm, 300 sq mm, 400 sq mm etc. whereas copper conductors sizes are 1 sq mm, 1.5 sq mm,  2.5 sq mm, 4 sq mm, 6 sq mm, 10 sq mm, 16 sq mm, etc. Apart from mentioning the type of insulation used for the cable is prime important along with conductor material.

2) P.V.C Conduit

The major specifications of the conduit are the diameter of the conduit and its thickness.

Example :

  • (a) 20 mm PVC pipe 2 mm thick.
  • (b) 40 mm PVC pipe 3 mm thick.
  • (c) 50 mm PVC pipe 3 mm thick etc.

3) Casing and Capping

Well, seasoned varnished teak wood casing with 2-grooves having a cross-section of 38 mm × 12 mm, 44 mm × 12 mm, 51 mm × 12 mm along with varnished teak wood capping of 4 mm, 6 mm, and 10 mm respectively. The PVC casing and capping of sizes 30 mm × 12 mm and 40 mm × 12 mm with 3 mm thick.

4) Batten for CTS or TRS system

Well, seasoned varnished teak wood battens are available with a width of 13, 19, 25, 31, 38, 44, 50, 56, 63, 69, and 75 mm.

5) Clips for CTS or TRS system

Tin or Brass clips of the appropriate length of 30 mm, 40 mm, etc., of thick 30 or 32 SWG are available in boxes a box contains 100 numbers of clips.

6) Saddles

For saddles, the saddle material its thickness, and for which conduit it is required is to be mentioned.

Example: Brass saddle 1.5mm thick suitable for 25mm GI Pipe.

7) Switches

Full Specifications of switches controlling light fan or socket outlet cover the type of base material (porcelain or bakelite) shape of the base (round or oblong) the colour of the base (white, black or brown) type of switch (tumbler, concealed or pendant), the operation required (one way, two way, etc.) with voltage and current rating.
