Difference Between Renewable And Non-Renewable Energy Sources

Our Earth consists of both finite and infinite sources which are popularly known as Renewable and NonRenewable energy sources. Renewable energy sources are unlimited and available at any end of the earth but non-renewable energy sources are limited and they may get extinct at any time.

01. Non-renewable sources are some type of fossil fuels available on earth like coal, nuclear, oil, and natural gas which are limited. Renewable energy sources are Solar, wind, water, biomass, and geothermal which are unlimited.

02. IMPACT ON ENVIRONMENT: Generation of electricity from non-renewable energy sources will go under some burning of fuels which produce exhaust gases which will pollute the air but come to renewable energy sources they will not produce any greenhouse gases which will prevent the pollution and global warming.

03. REQUIREMENT OF AREA: Nonrenewable energy sources require low space due to less machinery but renewable energy sources require very high space compared to nonrenewable sources for producing the same amount of power generation.

04. INFRASTRUCTURE REQUIREMENT: Renewable energy sources require less machinery and infrastructure due to less conversion process. Non-Renewable energy sources require heavy machinery and infrastructure because of the burning process of fuels and bulk conversion process.

Coming to cost analysis Non-renewable energy sources requires high investment in running cost compared to upfront cost but renewable energy sources require high upfront cost and running cost. The upfront cost is low because the nonrenewable energy sources will generate the electricity using fossil fuels in bulk amount. Renewable energy sources need high upfront cost due to the impossibility of instant power generation, but the main advantage is it will provide equal output for the investments as it requires low running cost except for hydro and geothermal power plants because these comes under the commercial generating plants where the output will be differentiated according to the plant capacity factor.

The only reason to invest in re-newable sources is they are sustainable in nature and prevent global warming. Renewable energy sources can be used by households to generate electricity it is maintenance-free and easy to generate but coming to non-renewable energy sources it is not possible to generate electricity due to complex conversions. To produce electrical energy by using non-renewable energy sources fossil fuels must be burned which leads to the production of exhaust gases which causes air pollution and global warming.

Renewable energy sources are more accessible due to high availability in numerous areas on the earth’s surface but non-renewable energy sources are less accessible because they are available at finite places on the earth’s surface. There are some major similarities such as both the sources are found on earth and useable for the generation of electricity. There will be some global charges for fossil fuels because they are available in rare areas and for refining of fuels from nature will cost the most but there will be no such global charges for renewable energy sources because they are free to use and converting them into electricity will be very easy.

The major and main difference is renewable energy sources will be recovered in a short period of time but nonrenewable energy sources are not recoverable in a short period of time because of the natural mineral property. So nonrenewable energy sources must be used in limited conditions because of their long recovery properties and renewable sources can be used without any hesitation and plentiful cleanest generation will provide us the long living life. These are the major differences between renewable and non-renewable energy sources as they have similar properties such as availability. Differences can be used for reference and they can impact the generation processes.
