Differences Between Electric Cars and Diesel cars
In earlier days we didn’t have any transportation facilities but the technology has improved and in the transportation system vehicles are invented. A four-wheeled road vehicle that is powered by an engine, steered by a driver, and able to carry a number of people is called a car. Within the car, there is an engine. To drive the engine we use electric motors, diesel, etc. Of these, the cars are named Electric cars and diesel cars.
Electric and diesel cars
The invention of first model electric vehicle is introduced by a number of people in 1828, anyos jedlik invented an early type of electric motor and created the model car by using another motor.
Electric cars have an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. The electric vehicle uses a large traction battery pack to power the electric motor and the electric vehicle must be charged regularly at the charging station because it runs on electricity, the vehicle emits no exhaust from a tailpipe, and does not contain any liquid-containing components like fuel pumps, fuel tanks and other.
In this type, a battery is used to store the energy and a charging system exists, to get the charging from the Power supply, Dc to DC converter is used to convert the power into the desired supply, and electric traction motors are used to drive the engine, power electronic devices are used to control the equipment.
Rudolf Diesel is best known for the invention of the engine that bears his name and was born in Paris in 1858. His invention came while the external combustion engine was the predominant power source for giant industries. In 1885, diesel set up his first shop in Paris to start the development of a compression ignition engine.
Diesel vehicles are similar to gasoline vehicles because they both use internal combustion engines. One difference in diesel engines has a compression-ignited injection system rather than the spark-ignited system used by most gasoline vehicles. In diesel cars, there is a fuel line, fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel tank used to operate the engine and other equipment used to drive a car.
Difference between electric cars and diesel cars
Electric car | Diesel car |
It is an electric power source. The motor is used to drive the engine. | It is a fuel source. Diesel is used to driving the engine. |
The engine type is an electric motor. | The engine type is a turbocharged diesel common rail. |
The equipment used in the electric car is a battery, charge port, DC to DC converter, electric traction motor, onboard charger, power electronic controllers, thermal system, and traction battery pack. | The equipment used in the diesel car is a fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel line, fuel filter, after-treatment system, battery, diesel exhaust filter, diesel exhaust fluid tank, and compression-ignited internal combustion engine. |
No need for fuel pumps, fuel lines, and fuel tanks. | No need for electric traction motors. |
Electric cars are having a quality that has a high consumption of power. | Diesel cars offer more low-speed torque which means they have better overtaking power. We say less power consumption. |
Due to electric cars, the environment doesn’t pollute because it doesn’t contain carbon emissions. So, we say it is free from pollution. | Due to diesel cars, the environment gets polluted because it contains greenhouse gases and carbon emissions |
In an electric car, the engine is charged after a few hours. | In diesel cars, the engine is charged after a few minutes. |
High initial cost because there is a need for a high quantity of traction motors, batteries, and power electronic devices. | Low initial cost because of no need for motors. |
Less Operating cost. | High operating cost because minute by minute we need to refuel the engine. |
It requires less maintenance. | It requires high maintenance. |
Good appearance. | Dusty appearance. |
The mileage range is 150 to 300 miles. | The mileage range is 250+ miles |
At the top of the roof, solar panels are used to charge the battery. | There is no chance to use these solar panels. |
High efficiency to work. | Less efficient to work. |
