Harmonics

If you are from electrical or electronics background you often heard the term harmonics in electronics circuits. The harmonics are responsible to alter the output parameter. If more harmonics are present in the circuit then the circuit will not produce the desired output. Harmonics are present in both ac and dc supply. The harmonics are nothing but an unwanted signal that will change the output signal.

Effects Of Harmonics

The effects of harmonics in the circuit are:

  1. The power loss will increase in the circuit.
  2. In the motor, it will affect the torque.
  3. It is also causes heating in motors, interference, and oscillators.
  4. Harmonics will also cause power quality problems.
  5. Unwanted distortion can increase the current in the power system that results in higher temperatures in conductors and transformers.
  6. It also reduces the life span of the components.

Causes Of Harmonics

The harmonics are caused due to the nonlinear loads connected to the system. It is also caused by not using proper components such as capacitors, inductors, or resistors in the circuit. Sometimes they occur due to overload and short circuit conditions in the system.
