Power Electronics Projects

Power electronics is the updated field of electrical engineering which deals with controlling the flow of electrical energy. This control is done with some electronic devices. Power electronics mainly deals with designing, controlling, computation, and integration of non-linear, time-varying energy processing electronic systems. Some of the power electronic devices are Diode, SCR, TRIAC, MOSFET, BJT, etc.

20. Low voltage DC distribution system

Nowadays DC distribution is a major competition to AC distribution systems. The transformer used for AC can be replaced by DC to DC conversion.

19. RF based servo and DC motor controller system

The main theme of this project is to design a device which can control DC and servo devices by using RF wirelessly.

18. Power electronic converters for wind turbine system

Generation of energy from wind has a steady growth now-a-days. Advanced power electronic converters are included to avoid risk with high power.

17. Nuclear radiation detection

Using RF technology, we can detect nuclear radiations in the system. A nuclear radiation sensor is integrated into it. It detects, and an alarm is activated with a triggering signal to the other radiation detectors.

16. Solar smart Inverter

The solar cell movement is from 180 degrees East to West and returns to its initial position after sunset. Due to ground problems, solar charging is implemented. It provides a sinusoidal waveform with minimum distortion.

15. MATLAB/Simulink based modelling photovoltaic array fed T-source inverter

The mathematical model of T source inverter is derived and simulated in MATLAB software. The high voltage gain, improved transient response are given by the T-source.

14. Transmission of power wireless using class E power amplifier from solar input

This project explains how the transmission of power is done wirelessly. The input is taken from the solar panel. Generally, DC to DC converters is used to step up the voltage from 12V to 70V. This Stepped up voltage is given to the Class E amplifier.

13. Dual Axis solar tracker system

This system is used in the solar generating system. The main purpose of this tracker is to accurately determine the position of the sun.

12. Lamp life extender by ZVS (Zero voltage switching)

The main theme of this project is to increase the life span of incandescent lamps. Due to the reason that these lambs exhibit low resistance characteristics, it may lead to damage at high currents. This project provides a solution for the failure of random switching of lamps by placing TRIAC to switch on.

11. Dual converter using thyristors

It achieves bidirectional rotation of the DC motor by providing DC voltage at both polarities. The speed of the motor is controlled by the voltage applied to the thyristors.

10. SMS based Electric billing system

Distributing electric billing to consumers by using the remote system with the help of GSM technology in the form of an SMS. There is no human interference. This is accomplished in a short period. A huge amount of manpower is required.

09. Three phase bridge hybrid converter control

In this project, switching losses are reduced by replacing DC/AC and DC/DC converters. As the PV charging station is of DC system. Instead of a single DC in which the AC grid is connected with three DC systems with a hybrid plug-in electric vehicle.

08. Hybrid energy storage system design

This project is used to reduce the cost of electric vehicles and it provides long-distance strength. An algorithm that can control and it is developed for the high hybrid energy storage system with a lithium-ion battery depending on the supercapacitor. DC to DC converters is used for electrical vehicles. Efficiency is authenticated through experiments and simulations.

07. DC-DC converter using switched capacitor

High voltage DC power is required. It is less in weight because of the absence of the inductor.

06. Air flow Detector

This project gives a visual indication of the airflow rate. The filament is the sensing part of the incandescent bulb. The filament resistance can measure the airflow and the resistance is low, hence no airflow. If the resistance drops when there is airflow, a change in the resistance will generate voltage difference across the filament.

05. Thyristor power control by IR remote

This system uses an IR remote to control the induction motor speed like fans. This product is used to control the fan speed through TV remote. An IR receiver can be connected to a microcontroller to read code and gives output using a digital display.

04. Space vector pulse width modulation

SVPWM is used to generate pulses for inverters. It is used in closed loop control of BLDC motor, by taking feedback from motor the SVPWM will generate pulse and the pulse is fed to inverter.

03. Display of LAG and LEAD power factor based on UPFC

The lamp is connected in series with a choke it gives a lag in the current compared to voltage and hence more consumption of electrical units. Thyristors are connected in back-to-back connection to calculate the power factor of the AC signal applied to the load to bring capacitors across the inductive load. Two zero crossing detectors are used one to get zero-crossing pulses for the voltage signal and the other for the current signal the obtained pulses are given to the microcontroller. The time between the pulses is calculated. Hence the power value is displayed on the LCD display.

02. Remote AC power control by Android application with LCD display

By giving a firing angle to a thyristor, AC power to a load is controlled. As it is an Android application it can be controlled remotely using a smartphone or any other smart gadget with a graphical user interface by touch screen technology. The levels of AC power to the load or adjusted through Android application and a Bluetooth device.

01. Home automation system using Thyristors

In this system, home appliances are automatically controlled using advanced wireless RF technology. A radio frequency signal is a wireless electromagnetic signal especially used for communication. For controlling the loads, microcontrollers are interfaced with thyristors.

These are the top power electronics projects for engineers, diploma, and MTech students. I hope this article may help you all a lot. Thank you for reading.
