If you really enjoy your work being in the automobile sector or have an interest then I am here to guide you. At present, according to the estimation of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the EV industry solely will produce one crore jobs by 2030.

01. Desirable skills

The engineers must have desirable skills like strong knowledge of their field, ability to learn quickly and ramp up, “can-do” attitude, and should be self-motivated. These things will help you to get placed in the industry.

02. Which branch students can join the electric vehicle industry

The engineering branch students who can work in the electric vehicle industry are;

  1. Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  2. Mechatronics Engineering
  3. Automobile Engineering
  4. Chemical Engineering
  5. Computer Science Engineering
  6. Mechanical Engineering
  7. Electronics & Communication Engineering

03. Work for engineers based on branch

a. Electrical & Electronics Engineers: They are responsible for testing battery packs, working on the motor and designing driver circuits, developing and designing the wiring system, power electronics circuit design, etc.

b. Mechatronics Engineers: They are responsible for powertrain component development, vehicle design, robotics for parts assembly, etc.

c. Automobile Engineers: Their work is to design, develop mechanical mechanisms as well as operations of the automobile.

d. Chemical Engineers: They are responsible for designing and manufacturing lithium-ion batteries, assembling battery packs, and recycling batteries.

e. Computer Science Engineers: The work of computer science engineers is to develop algorithms for battery management systems, design and develop IoT (Internet Of Things) modules for sharing real-time data generated by electric vehicles, and also implement AI algorithms.

f. Mechanical Engineers: They are responsible for designing the parts of the vehicle, thermal management, and they must be familiar with the design tools.

g. Electronics & Communication Engineers: They are responsible to design sensor circuits, implementing controllers, testing, and implementing various sensors used in electric vehicles.

04. How to start a career in the electric vehicle industry

a. First be strong in your field. Suppose if you are from electrical and electronics background then be strong in your subjects such as machine, power electronics, and drives.

b. Build some projects related to electric vehicles such as converters, BMS, and embedded systems.

c. Do internship during summers on an electric vehicle.

05. How to develop skills

Before starting a career in the electric vehicle industry you must learn the skill set. I will share with you now how you can gain skill sets related to the electric vehicle industry.

a. Online Courses: You can enroll for online courses on electric vehicles from websites such as Coursera, Udemy, and NPTEL. You do a course on introduction to an electric vehicle, introduction to the battery management system, motor controller circuit, etc.

b. Software: Learning tools or software that is used in the electric vehicle industry. You should learn software such as AUTOSAR, MATLAB, AUTOCAD, etc learn software that is related to your branch.

c. LinkedIn Contacts: Contact your friends or other people who are working in the automobile industry, contact them through LinkedIn. Ask them what skill sets are required to get a job in the EV industry and then work on developing skills.

d. Webinars: Attend free webinars that are conducted by professors or experts who are working in the automobile industry. They will share their experience of working in the EV sector.

06. Electric vehicle-related projects
