Internet Of Things
Internet of things refers to the interconnection via the internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects like CCTV cameras, enabling them to send and receive data. In the internet of things, data is everything.
There are some more important points related to the internet of things.
01. The scope is not just limited to getting the devices connected or networked, it is more than that.
02. It is more about the exchange of meaningful information from one device to another to get another meaningful accomplishment.
03. But this data has to be interpreted correctly and it needs many other things to come hand in hand, many technologies to work side by side. If you just get the data from the sensors without understanding how to use or where to use it, it is useless hence, interpretation matters a lot.
04. To build IoT things, you need engineers from different domains, a mechanical engineer has to work with electrical engineers and computer science engineers for a complete IoT product.
Now let’s see some history of the internet of things. It is time to understand how the internet has occupied our lives.
01. The report says that it was started in the 1990s, where 300,000 desktop computers were connected to the internet.
02. Later in 2000, it grew to 300 + million desktop computers and laptops too connected to the internet.
03. Later in 2016, about 2.5 billion mobile phones are connected to the internet.
04. And in 2020, we can say refrigerators, kettles, water heaters, cameras, lights, home equipment, etc. All will be connected to the internet and trust me, it would be 15 billion devices connected to the internet. About 4 billion navigation systems would be connected to the internet. About 500 million wearable’s, watches, shoes, etc. would be connected to the internet, 100’s of millions of implants in humans or animals would talk to the internet.
Now I will discuss what will be the future of the internet of things become more common.
- When you wake up in the morning, the water heater would have the hot water ready before you come and start.
- During your bath, the kettle would have cooked your food, and you can consume it after a bath.
- When you lock the door, the car doors shall be open for you while going to the office.
- A/C shall adjust based on your body temperature.
- Parking slots shall be informed to you while you are near the office and you can park easily.
- The pillbox shall alert you of the time of your tablet intake.
- While coming the home, the lights get automatically on.
So guys, when the IoT becomes more popular, our work will be reduced and life becomes easier.
Now I can say that IoT enables the object (which eventually are the things) to be sensed, while also controlling it remotely, which enables better interaction of the physical world to the computers. This would improve the efficiency, accuracy with limited human intervention. IoT should be active for 24 hours and should perform any service.
Applications Of Internet Of Things
- The vehicle, Asset, Pet, and Human Tracking.
- Agriculture and Resource – including water.
- Energy Sector.
- Safety / Security System.
- Embedded Application / Mobile Application.
- Healthcare Application.
- Medical Application.
- Smart City Application.
Characteristics Of IoT
01. Safety – Having got all the things connected to the internet, personal data is under threat. Hence, securing the data is a major challenge, not only data security, the equipment getting involved in the IoT network is huge. Hence, personal data should be secure in IoT.
02. Scalability – The number of things getting connected to IoT is increasing day by day. Hence, an IoT setup should be capable of handling large data.
03. Connectivity – Connectivity should be guaranteed in the IoT.
04. Intelligence and Identity.
