Typical setup process: It is a common occurrence for iPhones to exhibit warmth during the initial setup phase, especially as they download and configure various data and applications. In my personal experience, though, I encountered elevated temperatures on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max even after the setup process had concluded.

iOS bug: Apple acknowledges the existence of a bug within iOS 17 that contributes to the heat issue, assuring users that this bug will be rectified through a forthcoming software update. Importantly, this update is designed not to compromise the device’s performance.

Third-party apps: Apple has observed that certain recent updates to third-party applications are causing them to overburden the iPhone’s system, leading to increased heat generation. To address this concern, the company is collaborating with these app developers to implement fixes that will be rolled out in due course. Some of the affected applications include Uber and Instagram, with Instagram having already issued a solution earlier this week.

Additionally, Apple has made it clear that the heat problem is not attributable to the use of titanium in the frame of the Pro models. Contrary to speculations from analysts and experts, Apple affirms that titanium, as compared to the previous stainless-steel Pro phones, actually offers superior heat dissipation capabilities.

It is important to manage expectations regarding these fixes; they do not imply that your new iPhone will remain completely cool under all circumstances. Activities such as intensive gaming, wireless charging, and streaming high-quality video content may still lead to a noticeable increase in your phone’s temperature.
