Wind Energy Towers Using VAWT, Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

Now we are slowly reaching the age of usage of renewable energy sources. The major issue behind the mass use of Renewable energy sources is due to the extinction of Non-Renewable energy sources and to be free from pollution. Now- a – days Non-Renewable energy sources are decreasing due to heavy usage. The environment is also getting polluted due to the release of exhaust gases while using Non-Renewable energy sources.

To prevent all these proposed “WIND ENERGY towers” use wind energy and generate power with the help of a Dynamo. The power generated by using wind energy is stored and used for various purposes. Hence the aim is to design and develop an Automatic lighting system using wind energy.

Circuit & Block Diagram

The output energy generated can be utilized by any load, here we consider load as the automatic lighting system.

Components Used

  5. LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) Circuit
    a. LDR (Light Dependent Resistor)
    b. Transistor BC547
    c. Resistors (33k)

Working

The vertical axis wind turbine works when the wind rotates the turbine. The turbine rotates with the wind flow. In this project, we are using savories VAWT. When the VAWT rotates, the generator will receive it as mechanical input and it will generate the electrical energy as output. Based on this project the wind energy tower is placed on the dividers of the highways. The wings of VAWT are curved to attain the wind for rotation from the two-way road. The speed of vehicles will make the turbine rotate.

The speed of wind is utilized. This can also be used in many ways as per our requirements. VAWT is connected to the Gearbox which consists of gears. The gearbox is connected to the Generator shaft VAWT will rotate when the wind blows and the gearbox will increase the rotations of the VAWT internally and send these rotations as mechanical input to the generator. The generator will use this mechanical input and generate electrical energy as output. The generated output is stored in the Rechargeable battery.

This is how the electricity is generated by VAWT and stored. This is how the electrical energy is generated and stored using the speed of vehicles with the help of VAWT.

The energy stored will be utilized for the automatic lighting system. LDR Circuit consists of a Resistor, Transistor, and main component LDR Resistor connected to the positive of the LED. The transistor terminals base, emitter, and collector are connected in the circuit. The emitter is connected to the ground. The collector is connected to the negative terminal of the LED. Resistor terminals are directly connected to the battery and negative are connected to the LDR. The connections are given as per the circuit diagram.

The LDR circuit is connected to the battery then LDR starts sensing the light. When thelightintensitydecreaseLED will turn ON automatically. This is how the LDR circuit is used to Automatic ON / OFF light. The light intensity of the Sun decreases in the evening then LDR sense the light and gives the supply to the LED.

Applications

WIND ENERGY TOWER can be applied to various uses. Presently we are using it for lighting the lights on Highways. This can be used

  1. Domestically
  2. Industrial purposes
  3. Commercially

The main advantage of this Tower is it can generate energy for 24 hours and it can generate in any weather conditions. In the future, it can also be used in many ways as it uses the renewable source process of power generation. The upgrade in the storage system can help to supply the grid.

Advantages

  • Simple in construction
  • Maintenance is Easy
  • Bulk production of power
  • Cost is less
  • Working is Easy and leakages are less

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage is that birds or some domestic animals interrupt the rotation as it is placed in the open area.

Conclusion

Wind Energy Tower successively generates energy when it is placed on the Highways. The wind created by fast-moving automobiles sends power back into the grid if possible, the wind project could be easily retrofitted to transform most of the world’s highways into endless power sources. Imagine highways being known for their power generation instead of their traffic.

From this project, we have concluded that renewable energy production can be possible in many ways, wind energy tower is one of the eco-friendly projects which is must be needed for the world.
