Electrical Project On Hybrid Renewable Power Generation

Batteries are a suitable resolution to these issues. Yet, in areas with seasons and unstable sunshine, such as in Europe, storage appliances are required that can store enormous amounts of energy over more extended periods of time. Hydrogen (H2) is an excellent energy carrier for this goal. Only water and electricity are required to build it. So-called electrolyzers are utilized for this objective. The hydrogen created can then be held in pressure cylinders, for instance. The digit of pressure cylinders utilized decides the amount of energy stored.

A fuel cell can be employed to transform the hydrogen back into electricity (and heat) when required. Yet, hydrogen cannot only be utilized locally as „storage gas“. It can also be utilized as a fuel in the mobility sector or as a basic material in the chemical enterprise or in laboratories. Then only electrolysis for hydrogen production on-site is required.

The hydrogen from our electrolysis can also be utilized for laboratory applications or as fuel for cars, trucks, forklifts, or different vehicles.

Components Of Hybrid Renewable Power Generation

A storage solution established on hydrogen consists of several elements:

  • a battery,
  • a current transformer,
  • electrolysis with water purification,
  • a pressure storage tank, and
  • a fuel cell

Battery

The battery with the battery charge controller is the interface to the energy grid. The battery is attached either directly to the PV system or through the home power grid. The battery functions as buffer storage, which temporarily holds small amounts and short-term energy surpluses. A battery is the numerous economical way for this. Once the battery has reached its maximum filling level, the electricity is utilized to deliver hydrogen.

Current transformer (DC/DC converter)

The current transformer converts the direct current from the battery in such a manner that it is appropriate for operating the electrolysis or converts the current from the fuel cell in such a manner that it is convenient for storage in the battery.

Electrolysis

The electrolysis transforms the current from the current transformer into hydrogen. This objective also needs purified tap water. The purification takes place in a different water purification plant.

H2 Storage

The hydrogen delivered by electrolysis must be stored. There are several opportunities for this. The current state for this is to be stored under pressure in pressure cylinders.

Fuel cell

The fuel cell accepts hydrogen from the pressure cylinders and transforms it into electricity. In the operation, additional water vapor is created, which is discharged into the environment. The electricity from the fuel cell flows through the current transformer into the battery and from there back into the home grid. The cycle is therefore closed.

Heat utilization

In order to improve efficiency, the heat discharged both during the process of the electrolysis and during the process of the fuel cell can be employed at a temperature level between 40-50 °C.
